NEW YORK – (August, 1 2024) – Tribeca today announced its lineup of exciting, one of a kind events for August, exclusively for Tribeca Members. The program features a diverse mix of film, TV and audio premieres as well as a live music event. Each screening will be accompanied by an intimate talkback with the filmmakers, creators or stars. Tribeca continues to expand its year-round offering through the Tribeca Membership program, which provides arts and entertainment enthusiasts the opportunity to experience the magic of Tribeca 12 months a year.

Tribeca Members get the first look at groundbreaking cinema and television before the general public with the world premiere of the final season of HBO’s critically acclaimed, global hit drama “My Brilliant Friend” starring Alba Rohrwacher and Irene Maiorino. Taking place at LOOK Dine-IN Cinemas W57th in Manhattan is the special screening of Magenta Light’s horror-thriller “Strange Darling” directed and written by JT Mollner and starring Willa Fitzgerald, Kyle Gallner, Ed Begley Jr. and Barbara Hershey as well as the New York Premiere of A&E’s documentary “Ol’ Dirty Bastard: A Tale of Two Dirtys” about the iconic Grammy®-nominated musician and legendary founding member of the hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan directed by Sam Pollard and Jason Pollard.
Members can also look forward to an advance screening of So Young Shelly Yo’s “Smoking Tigers" ahead of its theatrical release and MAX premiere. After winning Tribeca and AT&T’s Untold Stories program in 2022, “Smoking Tigers” went on to world premiere at the 2023 Tribeca Festival where it won Best Screenplay and Best Performance and received a special jury mention for the Nora Ephron Prize.
Additional curated Membership events include the world premiere of Paramount Pictures’ forthcoming original podcast series “The Godfather: A Film We Can’t Refuse” hosted by Senior Film Editor at The Hollywood Reporter Rebecca Keegan and featuring exclusive insights from the legendary cast, including Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, Robert De Niro and Talia Shire. As well as a panel discussion about the art of DJing with Blk ID Twins, DJ Mary mac and Lauren Flax, followed by a dance party at NeueHouse Madison Square.

The August lineup is announced on the heels of a full roster of star-studded Tribeca Membership events this spring and early summer, including a special event with Larry David ahead of the series finale of HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, an advance screening of Bleecker Street’s “Ezra” with Robert De Niro, Bobby Cannavale and director Tony Goldwyn and the World premiere of Paramount Pictures’ “A Quiet Place: Day One”, directed and written by Michael Sarnoski, and starring Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff and Djimon Hounsou.

Advance Screening of “Smoking Tigers” – August 13 at Tribeca Film Center
Set in Los Angeles in the early 2000s, “Smoking Tigers” is a portrait of a lonely Korean-American teen named Hayoung who is taken under the wings of three wealthy students she meets at an elite academic bootcamp. As she falls deeper into their world, Hayoung works harder to hide her insecurities about her problematic family and lower-income background, only to discover the bittersweet pains of adulthood that will forever shape her life. So Young Shelly Yo makes her feature directorial debut with this film, after winning Tribeca and AT&T’s Untold Stories program in 2022. “Smoking Tigers” was awarded Best Screenplay, Best Performance and a special jury mention for the Nora Ephron Prize at the 2023 Tribeca Festival. “Ol’ Dirty Bastard: A Tale of Two Dirtys” is the first official documentary about the iconic Grammy®-nominated musician and legendary founding member of the hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan. With never-before-seen personal archive shot by his wife, Icelene, this culture-defining special humanizes ODB as a man, a father, and a husband like never before. This definitive documentary provides an intimate picture of ODB’s life and reflects on the lasting impact he had on music and culture. Directed by Sam Pollard and Jason Pollard. Based on the bestselling novels by Elena Ferrante, “My Brilliant Friend” follows Elena Greco and the most important friend in her life, Raffaella “Lila” Cerullo. After meeting as children in 1950 Naples, their story goes on to cover more than 60 years, exploring the mystery of Lila – Elena’s brilliant best friend and, in a way, her worst enemy. The fourth installment of the saga, titled "Story of the Lost Child," delves into the adult lives of Elena and Lila. They find themselves entangled in the turmoil of Italy in the late 80s, nearing the end of decades of political violence and social unrest. “Beyond the Booth” Panel Discussion – August 7 at NeueHouse Madison Square
DJing has come a long way from its origins in 1935 when Walter Winchell coined the term disc jockey. Today’s DJs play a variety of genres and the art form has grown in both popularity and complexity. This panel discussion will take you “Beyond the Booth” to hear from some amazing DJs who work in NYC and around the globe. In partnership with NeueHouse, the panel features a discussion with Blk ID Twins, DJ Mary Mac and Lauren Flax. Following the discussion, there will be a dance party and opportunity for networking.
