In the mining town of Rock Springs, Wyoming, a drag theater company, led by the charismatic 25-year-old performer Kenny Starling, sets out to stage a shadow cast of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
In Time Warp, director Allison Berg captures the fledgling Starling Company’s diverse troupe of thespians as they mount their inaugural production. From exhausting rehearsals to thrift store costume hunts, the film immerses us in the lives of its vibrant cast, revealing both the exhilaration of performance and the realities of navigating life as queer artists in America. Despite rising tensions, the cast remains steadfast, extending an open invitation to the entire community — including a glittering preview at the local bingo hall. The Rocky Horror Picture Show’s spirit of rebellion and self-actualization feels more vital than ever. In a time marked by division and uncertainty, Time Warp celebrates the resilience, artistry and joy of queer communities.—Chelsea Moore
