When Ivy meets a handsome jazz musician on the train one fateful morning, two distinct timelines emerge: one where she falls in love with this stranger and the other where she reconnects with her ex-fiancé. Which life gives Ivy everything she wants, which love is truer, and how is she supposed to know which one to choose?

Ivy (Emilia Clarke) boards a train headed towards her goddaughter's christening. In a rush, she spills her coffee on a handsome stranger (Édgar Ramírez), a jazz musician with an adventurous spirit, sparking an unexpected romance. Or, maybe, she doesn’t spill her coffee. Maybe she goes to the christening alone and instead reconnects with her ex-fiance (Jack Farthing), her former corporate boss and the man she always thought was the love of her life. Which life gives Ivy everything she wants, which love is truer, and how is she supposed to know which one to choose?

These timelines play out in parallel in Next LifeDrake Doremus’ latest investigation of love, fate and, ultimately, timing. Enlivened by expressive cinematography, funky nights at the jazz club and beautiful vocal performances by Clarke and Ramírez, the film is an intimate and heartfelt exploration of the questions we ask and choices we make while falling in, or out, of love. Moving and sweet, Next Life celebrates love in all its forms, even when that form is heartbreak.—Camille Ramos
