Discover the story of Famous Eddie, a fashion icon responsible for the meteoric rise of culture-defining grillz. Archival footage alongside contemporary perspectives illuminate his legendary impact on the face of hip-hop.

Grillz have held iconographic status in the world of hip-hop for decades, but the true origin of these opulent works of art has never been explored quite like this. Well, it’s time to meet Famous Eddie for a history lesson. Birthed in the heart of Brooklyn during the early 80s, grillz quickly spread across the country, signifying a cultural revolution defined by style and audacity.

Executive produced by music star Goldie, the scope and scale of this documentary parallels the unprecedented rise of the genre itself as we watch these unique pieces of jewelry become a global force to be reckoned with. Each grill beams with personality as bright as the people who fashion them. Charting the humble beginnings of golds within the burroughs, director Lyle Lindgren thoughtfully curates an offering of enduring characters to outline a roadmap emblematic of what the culture is all about.—Casey Baron
