Escape From Tribeca
Feature Narrative | Spain | 89 MINUTES | Spanish | English subtitles
Thriller
Responding to an emergency call, a young paramedic unwittingly finds himself thrust into the middle of a war between two crime lords, triggering an escalating series of gruesome twists and turns over the course of one crazy night.

It should be a routine night for young do-gooder paramedic Eduardo (Chino Darin)— but this isn’t your typical emergency call. Entering the apartment equipped with his life-saving gear, Eduardo quickly realizes that his night is about to take a dangerous turn: A local crime boss, Mario, is bleeding out on a love seat; two of his underlings are there, weapons in hand, to force Eduardo to save Mario by any means necessary. What happens in the apartment triggers a series of increasingly out-of-control events that, over the course of one hellish night, put the seemingly unprepared Eduardo in a tailspin of frantic twists, turns, carnage and gore.

Spanish filmmaker Hugo Ruiz first took Tribeca audiences on an unforgettable nocturnal ride with the 2023 Midnight section breakout One Night with Adela, a single-take stunner that earned Ruiz our Best New Director Award. With the remarkable and remarkably unhinged Dante, he’s leveled up in every way possible. The storytelling is even more audacious, the brutality is enhanced to shocking degrees and the entertainment factor is off the charts. In the grand tradition of “one crazy night” cinematic thrillers, Dante is a sinister knockout that’s in a class all its own.—Matt Barone
